This week I continued working on my 3D modeling skills.

Most of these shapes were pretty straightforward, but the last air-scoop shape was pretty tricky for me to figure out how to do. I ended up having to mirror it in order to get everything exactly correct.

The next few images were modeling a chess set. Here's the Pawn, and the base that all of the pieces share.

In this image, I added the King and Queen. Both of them were fairly easy to model, but the King was a little trickier due to the cross on top of its crown, which required that the king be mirrored to get correct.

In this screenshot, I've added the Rook, the Knight, and the Bishop. The Rook was by far the simplest to model, being essentially just a cylinder. Then the Knight, which didn't require any complex modeling, but did involve extruding a lot of rectangles. Finally, the Bishop was extremely hard to get right; most of the difficulty came from the notch in its hat, which I had to learn a new technique where you can subtract the geometry of one mesh from another to achieve. In this case, I flattened a cube, angled it to be approximately correct, positioned it so that it was clipping through the Bishop and then subtracted the geometry.

Finally, here's the completed chess set. I modeled a board and added materials to both it and the pieces to get the colors right.

That's all for this week!
