Getting Back Into 3D

This week, I got back to work on my 3D modeling practice. It's been a bit of a rough week for me, what with one thing or another, so I haven't gotten a ton of work done, but I'm pretty satisfied with what I have managed to accomplish.
This week was mostly spent modeling and texturing a hunting knife. Here, you can see a progress shot, as well as the finished model. The blade and the handle were made by sort of tracing a plane to match the contours of a photograph of an actual knife.

Here is the wireframe. The blade, hilt, and handle were all modeled as separate objects that overlap each other. You can see the photograph used for reference behind the wireframe.
Here are the progress shots of the knife being textured. Each photograph shows another part having textures applied until the whole thing is complete. All three stages were done in slightly different ways. For the blade, the texture of the photograph was roughly lined up with the 3D model and applied that way. For the handle, the texture from the reference photo was painted on. And for the hilt, the texture was made from scratch.
That's all for this week! See you next time!
