Unwrapping Fence Posts

This was another slow week for me due to the holiday, but I did make progress learning how to unwrap models in Blender.

First, I started with a relatively simple model. Just two cubes scaled and tweaked to resemble parts of a wooden fence. Since the cross beam was going to be partially inside another mesh at either end, the faces that would have been on the end of it were removed.

Here's what it looked like when I finished. After applying the textures to the post and the cross beam, I duplicated both to make the finished fence.

Finally, here's what the UV map for the fence posts looks like. I probably could have done a better job with this but it looked basically correct and I wasn't feeling super great. It took me a while just to figure out why the long part of the UV map seemed to be rotated 90 degrees relative to the actual mesh.
That's all for this week! See you next time!
